THINstem® & SABS – FAQ
Welcome to the FAQ page for THINstem® and SABS brake pads, two of the most effective upgrades for bike storage and braking safety. Whether you're a commuter, e-bike rider, or just short on space, this guide will help you get the most out of your setup.
1. What is THINstem® and what does it do?
THINstem is a patented, quick-release folding bike stem that lets you rotate your handlebars 90° in seconds. This reduces your bike's width by over 60%, making it easier to store in condos, hallways, elevators, or on car racks. It's ideal for cyclists who need compact bike storage solutions.
2. Why is THINstem better than other folding stems?
Most folding stems pivot at the fork steerer tube, which tilts the handlebars awkwardly along the bike's head angle—creating a wider, messier profile. THINstem pivots at the stem head (where the handlebars clamp), keeping them straight and inline with the bike frame. The result? A slimmer, cleaner, and more functional fold.
3. What bikes are compatible with THINstem?
THINstem works with most bikes and e-bikes that have a threadless stem. It fits both 25.4mm (1") and 31.8mm (Oversize) handlebars. A shim is included for compatibility, so you don’t need to worry about sizing errors.
4. How do I measure my handlebar size?
Measure the diameter at the center of your handlebars—where it clamps into the stem. If you're unsure, just order the 25.4mm version; the included shim will allow it to fit both sizes.
5. Is THINstem safe for regular riding?
Yes! THINstem is designed with three independent locking mechanisms: a lever clamp, a centering tab, and a stop cap. The latest V4 model also includes safety tabs to block unintended rotation. Always ensure the lever is firmly closed before riding.
6. How easy is THINstem to install?
If you're comfortable with basic bike maintenance, you can install THINstem yourself. Remove your old stem, slide THINstem into place, and torque down the bolts securely. Instructions are included.
7. Can I use THINstem with older bikes?
Yes. With our Quill Stem Adapter, THINstem can be used on bikes with older threaded forks (1" quill systems).
8. What are the intended use cases for THINstem?
- Storing bikes in tight home spaces or elevators
- Urban commuting and transit integration
- Keeping e-bikes or regular bikes indoors for theft prevention
- Reducing the width of bikes for travel, RVs, or boats
9. What is SABS and how does it work?
SABS (Smart Anti-lock Braking System) pads are mechanical V-brake or caliper brake replacements designed to prevent front wheel lock-up during sudden stops. They help riders stay in control, especially in traffic, rain, or emergency stops—no electronics or sensors needed.
10. Which bikes are compatible with SABS pads?
SABS brake pads are compatible with standard V-brake systems and rim brake caliper systems. If you ride a hybrid, commuter, mountain, or road bike with rim brakes, these will likely fit. Just ensure you have at least 25mm clearance between the fork and the rim for proper installation.
11. Are THINstem and SABS available as bundles?
Yes! We offer bundle packages that combine THINstem, folding pedals, and SABS brake pads to give you maximum space savings and safety in one convenient upgrade. You’ll save money and simplify your ride.
12. Why buy the bundles?
